Entering its sixth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving. This is a chance to give your time, donations, or goods through a collaborative and social media-fueled effort. One way to take part in #GivingTuesday is by supporting the American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF), a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting respiratory health through the support of research, education, and patient-focused philanthropic activities in respiratory care.

About the ARCF

With the goal of pushing the profession forward and encouraging the scientific research in respiratory care, the ARCF offers a variety of grants and awards to assist individuals in these endeavors. Awards and grants include: Undergraduate Student Awards, Postgraduate Student Awards, Research Fellowships / Abstract Awards, Achievement Awards, Literary Awards, and Research Grants.

“The American Respiratory Care Foundation is the only national organization dedicated to promoting respiratory health,” said Timothy R. Myers MBA, RRT, RRT-NPS, FAARC, chief business officer for the AARC. “All donations provided to the ARCF result in the development and implementation of the grants and scholarships provided by the ARCF to students and practitioners in respiratory care disciplines.”

The ARCF has been a longtime supporter of AARC Journal Conferences, consensus and state-of-the-art conferences on respiratory care issues, whose proceedings are published annually in RESPIRATORY CARE. The ARCF is also the coordinating organization for the International Fellows program. Established in 1990, this program has given non-U.S. health care professionals an opportunity to visit the U.S. and observe respiratory care as it is practiced in the U.S.

Founded in June of 1985, the ARCF is managed by its Board of Trustees, comprised of 12 professionals, who conduct the business operations and manage the awards, scholarships and grant selections. Trustee nominations are solicited annually by the ARCF in collaboration with AARC and NBRC. The ARCF appoints new trustees during the last quarter of the year from the nominations.

So put November 28 on your calendar and spread the word to family and friends to support respiratory health!
