Proper cleaning and care are essential to ensure that your Monaghan Medical device continues to perform safely and effectively. Each of our products is designed for easy maintenance using simple cleaning and disinfection steps — no special equipment or harsh sterilization methods are required. Below, you’ll find detailed cleaning instructions for every device, along with links to download product inserts and user guides. Whether you use the AEROBIKA® OPEP device, the AEROECLIPSE® XL BAN nebulizer, or another Monaghan product, these quick-reference guides will help you keep your equipment clean, hygienic, and ready for every treatment.
AEROBIKA® OPEP Device
The AEROBIKA® OPEP device helps clear mucus and improve airflow for patients with chronic lung conditions. To keep it performing effectively, clean and disinfect it regularly using these simple steps.
Cleaning and Disinfection Instructions:
- After each use, disassemble the device into its four main parts.
- Wash all parts in warm, soapy water using a mild dish detergent.
- Rinse thoroughly and allow all parts to air dry completely.
The AEROBIKA® OPEP device is also top-rack dishwasher safe:
- Secure the disassembled parts in a basket on the top rack.
- Wash in a normal wash cycle with dishwasher detergent and a rinse aid (eg. Jet
Dry). - If excess water remains, shake the parts and allow to air dry thoroughly before reassembly.
- Dishwashing with overly dirty dishes is not recommended.
Disinfect weekly or as directed by your healthcare provider using one of the following methods:
- Boil the disassembled parts in hot water for 5-15 minutes.
- Soak in 70% isopropyl alcohol for 5 minutes, then rinse well
- Soak in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 30 minutes, then rinse well
- Use a ensuring to follow the manufacturer’s instructions
Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling. If removed from boiling water, take care to ensure the parts are allowed to cool completely.
Note: Tap water can be high in minerals which may result in scale build-up in the device. Depending on the amount of time you boil the device, a more frequent vinegar soak may be required to reduce scale buildup in the device.

AEROECLIPSE® XL R BAN® Nebulizer
The AEROECLIPSE® XL R BAN® Nebulizer delivers medication efficiently and only releases aerosol when you inhale. Regular cleaning prevents buildup and maintains consistent performance.
Cleaning Instructions:
- After each treatment, disassemble the nebulizer.
- Wash all components (except tubing) in warm, soapy water.
- Rinse thoroughly under running water.
- Allow parts to air dry on a clean, lint-free surface.
The AEROECLIPSE® XL R BAN® Nebulizer is also top-rack dishwasher safe:
- Secure disassembled parts in a basket and place on the top rack of a dishwasher.
- Wash in a normal wash cycle with detergent and a rinse aid (e.g. Jet Dry).
- Dishwashing with overly dirty dishes is not recommended.
- Allow all parts to air dry.
Once per day, disinfect using one of the following approved methods:
- Boil disassembled parts for 5–15 minutes (excluding the tubing)
- Soak disassembled parts in 1:50 bleach to water solution (approximately 1 tablespoon bleach in 3¼ cups water) for 3 minutes (excluding nebulizer tubing), then rinse well
- Soak disassembled parts in 1:3 vinegar to water solution (approximately 1 cup vinegar to 3 cups water) for 1 hour (excludes nebulizer tubing), then rinse well
- Use an electric steam sterilizer or microwave steam bag as directed (excluding the tubing)
- Never submerge the tubing in water — wipe clean with a damp cloth only.
Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling. If removed from boiling water, take care to ensure the parts are allowed to cool completely.

OMBRA® Compressor Nebulizer System
The OMBRA® Compressor Nebulizer System provides consistent airflow for effective aerosol therapy. Proper care of the compressor and accessories ensures optimal treatment performance.
Cleaning Instructions:
- After each use, disconnect tubing and accessories.
- Wipe the compressor exterior with a soft, damp cloth.
- Do not submerge the compressor or tubing in water.
Replace filters and accessories according to your device manual or clinician’s recommendation.

AEROECLIPSE® II BAN® Nebulizer
Designed for clinical settings, the AEROECLIPSE® II BAN® Nebulizer offers precise aerosol delivery. It can be cleaned and disinfected according to facility or manufacturer guidelines.
Cleaning Instructions:
The mode switch should be rotated to the breath actuated position (green button is up, mode switch has rotated counterclockwise).
Remove the supply tubing from the bottom of the nebulizer and unscrew and remove the nebulizer top. Between treatments with the same patient, the nebulizer may be processed according to any of the methods listed below:
- Sterile Water: Thoroughly rinse the disassembled parts in sterile water and shake to remove excess water.
- Isopropyl Alcohol: Wipe the outside surfaces with a tissue dipped in 70% Isopropyl Alcohol then submerge all parts in a soak of 70% isopropyl alcohol for 1 minute before shaking to remove any excess alcohol.
- Air Dry: Disassemble the device and shake out any excess drug.
- Hand Washing: Wash nebulizer parts in a warm water/liquid dish detergent solution and rinse in clean warm water.
For all methods, reconnect the bottom of the nebulizer to the compressed air supply to clear the orifice. Always allow the parts to air dry thoroughly before reassembling.
NOTE: Always follow accepted procedures for cleaning between uses with the same patient. This model is not designed for autoclave sterilization unless explicitly approved by facility protocol.

AEROCHAMBER® Devices
AEROCHAMBER® Valved Holding Chambers may help patients use inhalers more effectively by ensuring consistent medication delivery. Routine cleaning prevents medication residue and ensures smooth valve function.
Cleaning Instructions:
- Disassemble the chamber into its main parts.
- Soak in warm water with mild dish soap for 15 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly and shake off excess water.
- Air dry completely before use — do not towel dry, as this may create static.
AEROCHAMBER® devices are also top-rack dishwasher safe. Run the dishwasher on a normal or light cycle. Do not heat dry. Clean at least weekly or more often if used daily.
