Patient Advocacy Summit Sets Focus on Improving Care

The value of the annual Patient Advocacy Summit takes focus in this episode of Big Ideas Theater. Amber Galer, BS, RRT, discusses the 2017 summit and explains how the annual summits are rooted in the needs of the patients.

According to Galer, the Summit gives patients a chance to tell respiratory therapists how they would like to be treated—it gives patients a voice and helps them be advocates for themselves. Patients also get the chance to learn why their care is delivered in certain ways.

“It’s a chance for our patients to sit down with respiratory therapists in a non-clinical level and just have some time,” Galer said, “sitting down, eating lunch, and getting education, and listening to other patients’ experiences in their daily lives.”

The Patient Advocacy Summit also kicks off AARC Congress by keeping the focus on the patients and improving patient care. The deadline to sign up for the 2018 Patient Advocacy Summit is Nov. 19. Save your spot and invite your patients to attend this special event.

Big Ideas Theater 2017 was filmed at the AARC Congress 2017 in Indianapolis, IN. Congress speakers and lecturers shared their expertise and insights during these brief interviews.
