Big Ideas Theater, Episode 14: The ARISE Project

In this episode of Big Ideas Theater, Theresa Meinen, MS, RRT discusses the ARISE Project and how it’s helped bring more realism to simulation education. ARISE stands for Augmented Reality Integrated Simulation Education.

The ARISE Project began three years ago through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor as a way to incorporate augmented reality in simulation education. This is done through QR codes, rich media, pictures and other things put into the simulation to make it more real.

Meinen feels simulation is important and a staple in student education.

“One of the things we still lack a little bit in the simulation is realism,” Meinen said. “So when I look at what we’re doing with augmented reality, I really look at how we’re incorporating more realism into the simulated environment.”

The ARISE Project covers multiple disciplines.

Big Ideas Theater 2017 was filmed at the AARC Congress 2017 in Indianapolis, IN. Congress speakers and lecturers shared their expertise and insights during these brief interviews.
