Why use an AeroTrach Plus® VHC for Aerosol Delivery with patients having a standard 15mm connector tracheostomy? Aerosol therapy for patients with a tracheostomy tube is generally performed to provide humidification to the airway (bland aerosols containing water or saline), or to deliver pulmonary or systemic medications (pharmacologically active aerosols). The therapy of choice has traditionally been through a conventional nebulizer. It is common to require medicinal aerosol delivery in tracheotomised patients, more commonly for relieving bronchospasms and/or treating pulmonary inflammation. The American Thoracic Society recommends the delivery of drug through the tracheostomy because it is more likely to provide good pulmonary deposition. The superior efficiency and ease of use of pMDIs with valved holding chambers in comparison to standard continuous jet nebulization is well documented across a range of patients. Some advantages of using AeroTrach Plus® VHC over conventional nebulization can be summarized as follows:
In summary, the AeroTrach® Valved Holding Chamber provides patients with a practical and effective means of delivering their pulmonary medications. |
