• The ComfortSeal® mask simplifies the inhalation maneuver when the patient has difficulty holding the device, achieving a lip seal around a mouthpiece or inhaling only through their mouth.   This feature may also be helpful to the caregiver since it can save significant time compared to conventional nebulization.  In a study titled "Efficacy of mask spacer with metered dose inhaler in the frail elderly"  LG Nair, R Diamond, S Thakore and JM Fine, concluded that the use a mask provided clinical equivalency to nebulization with improved technique and cooperation.

The AeroChamber Plus® VHC with Large ComfortSeal® mask is ideal for older patients with compromised coordination, such as those with secondary conditions to their respiratory disease.  The ComfortSeal® mask reduces the coordination requirements needed to achieve a lip seal around a mouthpiece and/or breath exclusively through the mouth.   The AeroChamber Plus® VHC with Large ComfortSeal® mask incorporates a unique one way exhalation valve, which directs the patient's exhalation away from the face and eyes, for delivery safety. This feature is particularly important where formulations might cause unwanted side effects if sprayed into the eyes. 

For patients who are able to properly coordinate the pMDI technique, we recommend the use of the AeroChamber Plus® VHC with mouthpiece. For low tidal volume patients, we recommend the use of the AeroChamber Plus® VHC with Small or Medium ComfortSeal® mask.
