AeroChamber Plus® Valved Holding Chamber ("VHC")

with Small or Medium ComfortSeal® Mask

Why Use an AeroChamber Plus® Valved Holding Chamber ("VHC") with ComfortSeal® Mask?

It has been demonstrated that for small tidal volume patients, the Monaghan VHCs are more efficient devices than larger volume VHCs.   Radiolabelled deposition analysis demonstrates the impact of using a Monaghan valved holding chamber.

The AeroChamber Plus® VHC with ComfortSeal® mask product line incorporates the benefits of the AeroChamber Plus® VHC with mouthpiece and adapts them to meet the special requirements for patients in a masked configuration. It provides faster treatment than conventional nebulizers and can be used with additional formulations available in pMDIs. Because the mask seals easily over both the mouth and nose, it provides assurance for optimizing drug delivery for obligate nose breathers.

The ComfortSeal® mask provides minimal "dead space" and a comfortable, secure fitting seal over a wide age range. A secure fitting face mask is critical when delivering aerosols to patients. The ComfortSeal® mask has demonstrated improved drug availability because of both substantial superiority in maintenance of a seal and leakage minimization when compared to other commonly used facemasks.   It is available in 3 sizes (small, medium and large). The large mask is ideal for adult COPD or asthma patients with secondary conditions such as arthritis, Parkinson's or other tremor-related disorders. For patients who have difficulty achieving a lip seal around the mouthpiece or have difficulty coordinating the maneuver, we also recommend use of the AeroChamber Plus® VHC with Large ComfortSeal® Mask.

The mask is lightweight and shaped to closely follow the contours of the face. Its deep cushion helps to create an excellent seal, particularly between the cheeks and nose. Each 100% medical grade silicone ComfortSeal® mask is equipped with an exhalation valve. This robust design affords low resistance to flow and directs the flow away from the patient. This feature helps to reduce the risk of exhaled drugs coming in contact with the patient's eyes, an important feature for some pMDI formulations. In addition, the colored exhalation valves are clearly visible on exhalation thus providing useful feedback to the caregiver on proper function.

Each AeroChamber Plus® VHC contains a highly responsive inspiratory valve which is tailored to each patient group's respiratory efforts. This one-way valve opens with minimal effort to allow inhalation of the aerosol cloud and closes, at the end of inhalation, to prevent the patient from disturbing the aerosol inside the chamber during exhalation. These valves must be responsive to low inspiratory efforts especially during a respiratory crisis when flow rates can be significantly impaired. The design of the inspiratory valve can have a profound effect on emitted dose. The valve must be responsive to low inspiratory efforts to ensure that active medication is delivered to the patient.

Our valved holding chambers have been supported by at least 300 publications and are the most frequently prescribed holding chambers in the world.
